Unofficial php 4.3.3 Debian packages

Hi there. People using Debian GNU/Linux boxes can use the unofficial=20 php4-4.3.3 debian packages, that I just released. They are compiled from the official 4.3.3 sources, with debian packaging scripts (expected to be compatible with future official debian releases). Notice that they are optimized for >=3Di686 CPUs. Here is an idea: how about integrating the Debian packaging script with the main PHP CVS code? This is done with some other Debian packages, and it helps a lot for people who want to build a package from CVS...

I think so. Including packaging scripts would : * add buzz in the cvs tree (every distro/OS wanting his own piece of the cake) * disturb the development of OFFICIAL debian packages We should not bypass the work of the debian maintainers. They are free to work the (debian-)way they want. (I tried to make my packages compliant with their work and I would also submit my changes if they ask me) Regards.

Sure -- I took for granted that you had been working in cooperation with them. You do as you wish. I just would find it very convenient to be able to build PHP .deb's from CVS, that's all. And I don't think it would cause a lot of extra work for anyone.

Sure. Why not? We are talking about text files here, not the actual binary packages. It is a drop in the sea... I am all for adding RPM .spec files as well as NSIS scripts (for Windows installs) or whatever else. It will make PHP a better product.

AFAICS, the spec file for RPM is already on CVS: http://cvs.php.net/annotate.php/php-src/php4.spec.in?login=2&rev=1.2 Or maybe I am mistaken, but it sure does look like a spec file ;) But it's almost 2 years old (and not really complete I think) Anyway, if having a spec file, we could also have a deb file (if someone is interested in maintaining it of course).
