Now that everyone had their say (I hope) I've made a quick tally of the votes so far: Rename date & timezone classes to DateTime and DateTimeZone respectively Tony Derick Mike Rasmus Andi Ilia Don't do anything and wait till 5.3/6.0 etc.. Pierre Steph So it's 6 to 2 so far. I have not seen a clear vote from Marcus, Edin, John, Jani and Andrei who had actively participated in the discussion. Ilia Alshanetsky

i am not going to look up a link for where i said my opinion. But trust i immediatley replied to andi as he was the first to offer a real name solution and added me as +1. Apart from that i said 'DateTimeZone' from the beginning (or was that on some channel...) well count me as +1 Best regards, Marcus

I don't wanna be a nitpicker here, but I've seen DateTimeZone and DateTimezone both used in the discussion. I'm not sure which would be the popular one. - Ron PS: shake hands and make up.. group hug everyone? :) "Ilia Alshanetsky" <ilia@prohost.org> schreef in bericht news:53CE8C91-B388-4DC8-81B1-15B7F17C3162@prohost.org...

Class names are not case sensitive, so it does not matter if it is FooBar or fooBar or even FoObAR. On 19-Jul-06, at 11:31 AM, Ron Korving wrote:

Ilia, since PHP5 we are case preserving. So it does matter, though only stylistically, not technically. regards, Lukas

DateTimeZone as "timezone" is not a word. (It's two words: "time zone") Derick

am I quote ------------ I already agreed with Pierre over this, and offered to support him in giving PEAR support for upgrading. So long as it goes in from the start of 5_3 branch, why not? (Like it should've done at the start of 5_2 already.) I think it's worth holding out for a few more months to get sane names in there - and the original names are the sanest, least confusing names. - Steph ------------ On 19-Jul-06, at 1:00 PM, Steph Fox wrote:

:) 'do nothing' just sounds like 'let's ignore this whole thing', and that's _really_ not what I meant there! But nm. It looks like DateTime/DateTimeZone has the majority vote by a long chalk anyway, so be it. - Steph

My $0.02USD; Most Ideal: Grant the 'Date' namespace to Internals (Not going to happen for the volume of reasons already discussed.) DO NOT REPLY WITH ALL THE REASONS I AM WRONG FOR HAVING THIS OPINION. I ACCEPT THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN. SO DON'T.......NONONONO NO BUTS, I SAID DON'T. Least Ideal: Leave it out entirely until 5.3. This was the argument during the 5.1 RC stage. There's no excuse to be having this argument still. Compromise: Give it the red-headed-stepchild names of DateTime and DateTimeZone. -Sara
